mikesullie  With every revelation of God’s character an aspect of our character is revealed. The more I learn about who God is and about how He works, moves, and speaks the more I understand about myself.

God created us in His image (Genesis 1:27)…so it is inevitable that we will resemble Him. How many times have you met one of your friends parents and seen how much your friend looks like their Mom or Dad? Or maybe they have similar mannerisms as one or both of their parents. We will naturally resemble and emulate our parents (or Creator.)

How often have you subconsciously begun saying some little phrase that a friend says all the time just because you spend time with them? We pick up little nuances and habits from the people we are around… it is the same with God.

Spending time with Him and asking Him questions is the best way to learn how to hear from Him. It’s really just that simple! You can chat with Him about things that are on your mind or heart just like you chat with those closest to you. He WILL respond! The more time you spend with Him in His presence the more He will open up the many facets of Himself to you.

When you first become friends with someone you don’t know everything about them or how they think until you have developed your friendship. It takes time; Time with them asking questions about their likes and dislikes and experiencing things together. And it is purposeful. You will not get to know someone better if you never see them or talk to them.

It was news to me when I first realized that the only way I was going to find my identity and my “calling in life” was by getting to know God.  But now, no other way makes sense to me. Think about it…what do you do when you’re trying to figure out how a new electronic works? You either read the instruction manual or get online and type your questions into Google, right? Well, look at it this way…God created you and He not only wrote the instruction manual to how you operate, but because He made you…He knows everything about you! He knows exactly how you “tick.” He knows your past, your present, and your future! So doesn’t it make sense to ask the One who knows every little thing about you how you work? And ask Him what all you can do? Or what all you were made to do??

It is so important that we get our identities from God rather than from what other people think or even from what we think of ourselves. The only One who sees us truly for who we are and who He created us to be is God. He doesn’t see the mistakes and the failures…He sees beauty and power.  He will not lie to you or steer you wrong, He only wants what is best for you! And He knows the desires of your heart. He knows what makes you come alive and what you dream about. He will never beat you up or be disappointed in you. You cannot surprise Him. He loves you, no matter what.

In a nutshell, you have to know Him. You have to know God and spend time with Him to learn His ways and to hear what He thinks about you. It is the best and only way to walk into your destiny.

One of my favorite books to read in the Bible is Ephesians. When I read it I feel like it is calling out in me what I am destined to look and be like. If you haven’t read it from that perspective, you definitely should! What books speak to y’all about who God created us (or you) to be?
